How To UseInhale Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) by mouth, usually twice a day. The rotacaps should be used with a special inhalation device called a rotahaler. Breathe in deeply to ensure you get the maximum amount of medication in your lungs and do not breathe out into the inhalation device. Follow the instructions of your doctor exactly, even if they differ from the usually recommended dosage.
If you have been prescribed several inhalations, wait at least one minute between puffs. If you are also using other inhalers, wait several minutes between the use of each of them and use Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) last.
Gargle and rinse your mouth after use to prevent such side effects as a dry mouth, hoarseness and oral yeast infections. Do not swallow the rinse solution.
To enjoy the maximum benefits of Generic Flovent (Fluticasone), use this medication regularly and at approximately the same times every day.
Overdose
If you think you have taken too much Generic Flovent (Fluticasone), contact your local poison control center or the emergency medical services straightaway.
Missed Dose
If you have missed a dose of Generic Flovent (Fluticasone), take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next scheduled dosage, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double up on this medication to make up for a missed dose.
Notes
Learn how to use a peak flow meter and notify your doctor straightaway in case of any signs of worsening asthma. Also tell your doctor if you have had to use your quick relief inhaler more often than normal (4 or more puffs daily for at least 2 days in a row or more than 1 canister every 8 weeks).
Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) is only effective for the long-term treatment and prevention of asthma and should not be used for sudden attacks of breathing trouble, as it does not work immediately. If you suffer from asthma, ask your doctor to prescribe you a quick-relief medicine or inhaler. You should always carry an inhaler with you.
While taking Generic Flovent (Fluticasone), you should have regular laboratory or medical tests to chart your progress and check for side effects. Make sure you do not miss any of these appointments.
In adults, long-term use of Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) could increase the risk of osteoporosis. Certain lifestyle changes, however, could reduce the risk of bone loss, including weight-bearing exercise, quitting smoking, getting enough calcium and vitamin D and limiting your alcohol consumption.
Do not share this medication with others as they may have a condition that is not effectively treated with Generic Flovent (Fluticasone).
StorageStore Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) at room temperature (59-86 degrees F, 15-30 degrees C) and keep it away from light and moisture. Avoid freezing. Once finished, dispose of this medication in keeping with environmental laws. KEEP THIS AND ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

PrecautionsBefore taking Generic Flovent (Fluticasone), inform your doctor of your medical history, including:
- Any allergies
- Tuberculosis
- Untreated or active infections
- Herpes infection of the eye
- Eye disease (glaucoma)
- Decreased adrenal gland function
- Bone loss (osteoporosis)
If you suffer or ever have suffered from any of the above conditions, you may not be able to use Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) or you may need a dosage adjustment.
If you have switched to this medication from an oral corticosteroid (e.g. prednisone tablets) in the past 12 months or if you have been using this medication in higher-than-usual dosages, your body may not produce enough natural steroids anymore. If this is the case, you will need to take additional corticosteroids, especially if your body had recently undergone physical stress, such as recent surgery. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Unusual weakness
- Weight loss
- Dizziness
Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) may mask signs of infection or put you at greater risk of developing them. Report any signs of a new infection immediately, including:
- Persistent sore throat
- Fever
- Cough
If you have been exposed to certain infections, such as chicken pox or the measles, while taking Generic Flovent (Fluticasone), you should notify your doctor immediately.
Caution is advised if Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) is used by children. In rare cases, this medication may slow down a child’s growth, even though it probably will not affect final adult height. Monitor your child’s height regularly.
Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) is classed as Pregnancy Category C by the FDA, which means it could potentially be harmful to an unborn baby. It is advised to not take this medication if you are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant during treatment, unless this is absolutely necessary for your health.
Generic Flovent (Fluticasone) is not expected to pass into breast milk and is therefore considered relatively safe when taken while breastfeeding. Discuss your options with your doctor.
Drug Interactions
Before taking Generic Flovent (Fluticasone), inform your doctor of all other medication you are currently using, especially of:
- Natalizumab
- Aldesleukin
- Oral corticosteroids (e.g. prednisone, dexamethasone)
- Mifepristone
- Medication affecting the removal of fluticasone from your system (potent CYP 3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, ritonavir)
This is only a partial list and other medicines may interact with Generic Flovent (Fluticasone). Inform your doctor of all other prescription and non-prescription medication you are using, including vitamins, minerals, herbal pills, dietary supplements and medication prescribed by other doctors. Do not start or stop using any medication without discussing this with your doctor first.
